‘the Disc “ram” Could Not Be Modified’ Mac Error

DVD RAM refers to the DVD format, where user can repeatedly record and erase data. These discs can be used by all DVD RAM drive installed Macintosh computer systems. Mac OS X can be used to format and write data on DVD RAM. It is a new support added in the operating system. But sometimes users report an error that when they attempt to copy files to these discs, these attempts fails. The message describes that disc can’t be modified. In such cases, users are recommended to backup all the data from the disc as solution may require reformatting the disc. However in case of backup failure, Mac Data Recovery is the solution.

In these cases, user can still read data from the disc and copy its data to some other volume, but can’t copy to it. The error message is: “The disc “Ram” could not be modified”.

Cause

Possible reasons of the error message:

• DVD-RAM has UDF(Universal Disk Format)

• Incorrect DVD-RAM disc caddy

Solution

Based on the causes, user can try these solutions:

• Users are required to ensure that proper DVD-RAM disc caddy is being used. It should be the one, provided with computer. Disc should be in the caddy to perform any write operation.

• If UDF format is the case, we can reformat it to Mac OS Extended (HFS Plus) or Mac OS Standard (HFS) so as to carry out write. User can check the disc format through File menu option, Show Info, by selecting it in Finder. The file system information is displayed in General Information. However disc reformatting can be accomplished using Disk Utility options.

Users are recommended to backup all the data in latter case as formatting deletes all the data from disc. It is also suggested to look for its log reports and check for complete files. In case of incomplete or invalid backup state, Mac Recovery applications can help recovering lost data. These are the specific tools that can scan the media, including DVD-RAM, and recover data. Mac Data Recovery software use safe searching algorithms.

File Loss While Moving Files From Groove To Windows File System

You may face file loss situations if you cancel the file move operation, which moves the files from Groove Files utility to the Windows file system. it may cause data loss situations and you are required to opt for File Recovery Software to resolve this problem.

When you delete any file from Groove Files utility by using Cut command. After that, you use Paste command for adding the file to Microsoft Windows folder. When you Paste the file, Windows file system (either FAT or NTFS) asks you to replace the existing file with same filename.

In this process, the file gets lost. You can not find the particular file in Groove Files tool and Windows file system.

Microsoft Office Groove 2007 is a collaboration tool that allows teams to work together dynamically in a collaborative workspace from any location. it can be used to store, manage and share any kind of Windows file.

The file loss situation can not be accepted at any cost and you need to find out its proper cause and sort it out by performing file recovery .

Reason

You may face this problem because move operation was rejected by the user when he/she clicked No in the replace prompt. Though, Windows still informs Groove that move operation has completely successfully. Thus, Groove removes the file in Groove tool because Microsoft Windows doesn’t show that file wasn’t copied to Windows file system.

Solution

To resolve this problem, you can retrieve the lost file in Groove File tool. To retrieve lost file, click Undo in the Edit menu.

This solution is only applicable before Groove deletes the data for particular file. it takes place when all of the workspace endpoints receive the change and user exit the workspace.

If the Groove has deleted data for the file, then this method would not work and you have to perform File Recovery to get your lost file back. It is possible with the help of third party file recovery software .

These software are particularly designed to recover your lost, missing, deleted or inaccessible files from your computer. They work in most of the logical data loss situations and allow you to have successful retrieval of your precious files.
